Assignment for 5/21 - 5/28 Smartmusic
Smartmusic assignment Due 5/28
This is a fun little piece that I know you can do. I would love to see your best work on this. Please read the instructions and listen to the recording when you open it for the first time.
1. Log into Smartmusic
2. Open the newest assignment "I Am What I Am"
3. Listen to the recording with both the accompaniment and Your Part on
4. Listen to the piece without the accompaniment.
5. Practice it at a tempo you can learn it at.
6. Make sure you check the Key Signature and look for any accidentals (changed notes) in the piece.
7. When you feel you can show me your best work, record and submit your recording.

This week I will be asking students to choose 2 pieces to learn and perform for their family on Saturday or Sunday (Mother's Day!)
1. Students should check their Smartmusic assignments this week. I will be posting some possible pieces for them to learn and perform. Students can also choose to learn and perform a piece of their own from the Smartmusic selections.
2. Once students have selected their pieces, follow the link below to submit your titles that you will be preparing. https://forms.gle/4nK4TFrwgUmHmtHR8
At this point students should prepare them using Smartmusic.
3. Everyone will prepare a short concert for their family this weekend.
4. This assignment will be recorded in Seesaw. I will show them how to do this when we meet this week.

4/21 Smartmusic Assignments and Small Group Meetings
Sorry for the problems today with the Meet link. I am working on getting it fixed. Check back on Wednesday for instructions regarding our group meetings on Thursday.
There are 2 new assignments in Smartmusic.
1. The first one, "Chillin" is to be turned in for accuracy (please read the instructions). Due by 4/27.
This assignment is meant to be practiced before turning it in. You should achieve a score of at least 82 before turning it in. If you haven't received a score of 82 by next Monday, Turn in what you did and I will give you some feedback.
2. The other is a piece of music which I like and I hope you like playing.
"Comet Ride" is for practice right now. You do not need to turn it in yet but you should practice it. Adjust your tempo to help you learn it. Percussion should choose either the Mallet part or snare drum part.
3. Smartmusic Exercises for Practice(I will show you where to find these on Thursday)
4/23 Google Meets Meetings
Please check your Cadet Band Google Classroom for information regarding a meeting time. The Google Meets link will be in your classroom feed. If you miss your meeting time simply join in on another time.

Once you have prepared the lines, you will submit a recording of Line 3 Tetra 12 and Line 4 Tetra 1.
* Submit your recording in Seesaw
* There will be separate activity assignments in Seesaw for each recording.
* Record with the recording I created for you or without but you must use the metronome speed shown on the recording.
Week of 4/6 Practice
Practice Time:
Set up FOUR 10 - 15 min. practice sessions each week.
Use the videos I've provided to help you
Use a metronome when practicing without the video and when recording your assignment.
For Practice:
Warm ups: BB Warm ups #2 (Met. = 80) Steady Air (Meas. 1-14) and Tonguing Practice (Meas. 15-22) Scroll down to find your instrument page.
Technical Skills:
Using the attached warm up sheet at the bottom of the page, practice each of the lines using your best tone and posture. Make sure you listen for the metronome to help you stay in time.
I’ve provided you with a practice video to help you prepare. Make sure you watch the video first so you have an idea of how to practice on your own. Follow the instructions below:
Percussion: Please do the mallet exercise and the snare drum exercise. When doing the snare drum exercise, play along with me as I play the melody part. I have also included a video of the snare drum part.

- Select your copy of the warm up sheet below. You can either play from your screen or print it out and play from the hard copy. This might be easier for some of you.
- Watch and listen to the video first. Finger along (Slide along, tap along) as I play.
- Once you are ready, play along with the video.
- Play through the lines at least twice each day. For those who want to challenge their skills, I’ve also recorded the Tetra lines at a medium and fast speed.
- I will ask you to submit a recording to me after Spring Break. It may not be perfect however I want your best work.
