Evaluation/Instruments/Supplies
EVALUATION
Attendance at early morning rehearsals, group lessons and our performance is expected. Non-attendance makes it difficult for a child to progress at a steady rate.
WORKBOOKS/SUPPLEMENTAL MUSIC
Provided by the district.
INSTRUMENTS
Unless you already own a quality instrument, we HIGHLY recommend renting. The rental program is valuable because you are not forced to invest in an instrument until you know what your child‟s commitment level will be. We work with Quinlan and Fabish Music Company in Burr Ridge. They offer high quality, affordable, student-line instruments. BandSource in Downers Grove also carries and services quality band instruments.
We DO NOT recommend obtaining an instrument from department stores, toy stores, stores that sell electric instruments, and off the internet. If you have an instrument, or see one for cheap, please contact Mr. Ohlsen or Mr. Tedeschi for assistance. Making a sound does NOT equal quality. An instrument that is hard to play is VERY discouraging to a beginning student.
The recommended instrument list is below.
SUPPLIES
If you rent an instrument, all supplies will come with it. If not, your child will need:
Brass Supplies
Valve oil, slide grease, mouthpiece brush, name tag on instrument case, wire music stand
Extended Supply (HIGHLY recommended for Trombone and French horn): Chromatic Tuner
Try one of these: Korg CA-1 or the Snark SN-2
